TV and radio presenter Bujy Bikwa is nursing a panga wound after a brawl in which he allegedly stabbed neighbours with a knife.
Two people are now in critical condition in hospital. Bikwa, a well-known gay social butterfly and Mzansi Magic’s Cula Sibone presenter, was arrested with his younger brother Mpumelelo, who was also involved in the fight.
By late yesterday, Bikwa’s family were trying to raise funds to pay a lawyer to represent the former YFM presenter in a bail hearing at the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
His neighbour, only known as Khumalo, and his son-in-law were allegedly rushed to Sebokeng Hospital in critical condition.
Sources have confirmed that Bujy and Mpumelelo were arrested on Friday night.
They said the problem started when Khumalo confronted Mpumelelo when he was walking to a shop, asking why he was looking at him in a funny way.
It is alleged that Mpumelelo ignored him but upon his return, Khumalo, his wife and son-in-law started sjamboking Mpumelelo, accusing him and Bujy of being disrespectful.
Mpumelelo drew a knife and stabbed his alleged attackers.
“Khumalo went to fetch a panga and chopped Mpumelelo several times while others [continued to] sjambok him,” said our source.
Another source said Bujy, who was made aware of what was happening, fetched a knife and started stabbing those attacking his brother. It is alleged Khumalo’s wife rushed back to her house, grabbed a panga and chopped Bujy, allegedly accusing him of wanting to sleep with her man.
Police arrived at the scene and arrested Bujy and Mpumelelo.
