Boy killed in mom’s arms: 3 arrested

Police have nabbed three suspects after a two-year-old boy was shot dead in Atlantis.

The trio was arrested on Sunday evening, less than 24 hours after the child was killed, following a manhunt by Atlantis police.
Braydon Graaff was killed in gang crossfire.
Two-year-old Braydon Graaff was shot during a gang gunfight while in his mother’s arms.

Braydon, his mother Rostan Graaff, 24, and a neighbour were hit by stray bullets near their homes when gangsters opened fire just after 9pm on Saturday night in Robinvale.
Police sources say the area has turned into a “war zone” due to a bloody turf war between the Americans and the 28s gangs.

On Monday police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the arrests: “Investigations into the circumstances of the murder and attempted murder led to the arrest of three male suspects aged between 20 and 30 years. Once charged, the suspects are due to make a court appearance in Atlantis.”

Rostan and Braydon had been on their way to visit his father, who lives close by.

The bullet that killed Braydon first hit his mother’s hand before entering his chest.

A shocked Rostan ran home with her bleeding child, and a neighbour grabbed him and ran all the way to the Wesfleur Hospital five minutes away.

However, the little boy was declared dead on arrival.

Speaking to the Daily Voice on Monday, Rostan’s relatives said they were satisfied with the arrest.

“We are all still traumatised and deeply hurt by what happened and my daughter is still in a state, but we are just going to take it one day at a time,” said Braydon’s grandmother, Geraldine Moses.

“We are happy that at least the police have arrested someone and they can be held accountable for taking my grandson’s life.

“No other family must go through what we are going through, enough is enough with these shootings.”
